Mandrake . ( Of the lat. )(do mandrag? ra, and this of the g ?). 1. f. herbaceous plant of the family Solanaceae, without stem with many leaves petioled, very large, oval, rough, wavy margin and dark green, flowers of odor-shaped Bell, whitish and reddish in Group placed in the center of the leaves, resembling a small Apple berry fruit, round, smooth, fleshy and smelling, and thick, fusiform and often forked root. It has been used in medicine as a narcotic, and about their properties ran in antiquity many Fables.
