It is unn apocope of Macarena, feminine name. Maca is the name of a plant of the family Brassicaceae, scientific name Lepidium meyenii. It is native to the Peruvian Andes. other names such as: maca-maca, maino, ayak chichira, ayak willku. It has medicinal and nutritional properties.
