It is a type of dialogued prayer, which contains a series of supplications. Long and monotonous list or enumeration. Retahila, petition, supplication. In Colombia it is a kind of coastal folk poetic composition in which invocations and petitions are made to God or a Saint. A person pronounces the first part of the verse and a choir answers the next.

A litany is a monologue dialogue or accompanied in lyrical form sublimated to a religious instance.

Singing, prayer, invocation to a superior entity with a plea. It is usually done with humility, without challenge. It is typical of the religious ceremonies. As in the liturgy is a long list of requests, it also defines the speech with sentences repetitive and monotonous.
