Meaning of laureanistas

RICARDO RODRÍGUEZ ASENSIO

laureanistas
  7

Followers of Laureano Gómez Castro in Colombia. Civil engineer from the National University, born in Bogotá, he was president of Colombia in 1950; Leader for many years of the conservative party, he agreed with the former liberal president Alberto Lleras Camargo the so-called National Front, transitional and parity regime of alternating governments between the two historical parties. The talks took place in Sitges and Benidorm. With this agreement, endorsed by plebiscite in 1957, the military government of Gustavo Rojas Pinilla was ended, as well as the violence between militants of those parties. Laureano was the father of Enrique and Álvaro Gómez Hurtado, the latter presidential candidate on several occasions, victim of kidnapping by the M 19 movement (in which the current president, Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego) militated) and years later assassinated at the exit of his chair at the Sergio Arboleda University. The crime has not been revealed.
