jade . ( Of the Br. jade , taken from the esp. )( [stone of the] ijada , because the jade was applied by the conquerors of America as a remedy to that part of the body). 1. m. stone very hard, tenacious, SOAP appearance, whitish or greenish with reddish or purple spots, which is often found forming nodules between crystalline stratified rocks. It is a silicate of magnesia and lime with small portions of alumina and oxides of iron and manganese, resulting in a composition resembling the feldspar. Many of the prehistoric tools are made of this mineral, and it is still used in China to manufacture highly prized charms against the evil of stone.
