In Nahuatl language, it is the name of a plant, it is also known as Jasmine of mountain and in Totonaco is x'quijit. Other common names are cardamom, chloric, guaiporé, naiku, sictia and black paint. Its scientific name is Ethanium mexicanum and belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. It has several synonyms (such as p. e . Mexican Renealmia, Renealmia jalapensis). It has several uses; the fruits are food, oils or inks can be extracted from it. It is found from Mexico to Venezuela.
