Indigenous peoples often constitute a minority ( although in some cases they are majority ) within national States of European Court, organized according to cultural, religious, political, economic, racial, etc., of a largely Europeanized environment. In this way, in the restricted sense used the term, "indigenous" refers to a pre-European remnant that represents in itself an antithesis of European culture.Following this use, it is not uncommon to talk about indigenous peoples in different parts of the world. For example, it is generally considered that Maori are an indigenous people of New Zealand. You can also speak of indigenous peoples in Borneo, in Africa and elsewhere.However, Australia, still also indigenous, native populations are known under the distinctive denomination of aborigines.Other peoples who maintain strong cultural guidelines prior to the European global expansion, as Chinese, Indians, Japanese, Persians, Arabs, Jews, Egyptians, etc. not usually included in the term 'indigenous' in the strict sense.With a more restricted sense, applies usually the term "indigenous" to native Americans, also called «Amerindians», «Indian», «Native American», «peoples» or «First Nations».Indigenous peoples have been organized in movements and associations with the aim of defending and promoting the rights of indigenous peoples in the world.
