gutta-percha . ( Of the ingl. )( gutta-percha ). 1. f. rubber translucent, solid, flexible, insoluble in water, obtained by making incisions on the trunk of a tree of the India of the family Sapotaceae. Bleached and heated in water, it is quite soft, adhesive and can stretch in sheets and take any shape, tenaciously retains after dry. It has wide application in industry to make waterproof fabrics and to wrap drivers of electrical wires, being very electrical substance. 2. f. cloth varnished with this substance.
