Gueledel is a term that can respond to two linguistic roots: canari or African.Root Canari, apocope of Guapondeleg which means in Spanish plain big as the sky. African root from Guelede which means ritual place of worship. Gueledel is a plain of 810 km. square at a height of 2500 s.n.d.m. located to the East of the former hacienda of Chayazapa where worked many black slaves imported by Mr Valdivieso, owners of the vast hacienda, today parceled in Saraguro, Loja Ecuador.
