It is the name of one of the largest rivers in Spain and Portugal (Iberian Peninsula). It means valley of the river Ana or Anas. Formerly it was called ana river or river of the ducks (anas) by the Romans. The word is of Arabic origin Wadi ana). It also means temporary. sporadic, which appears and disappears.
