JOHN

GELIFRACTION Gelifraction or cryoclastia is a process of necanic weathering consisting of the fracture of the rock as a result of the presence of ice wedges in cracks and fissures. When the water located in the hole freezes, it increases the pressure of the material, opening the fissure more. Both gelifraction and erosion are mechanical weathering processes, unlike chemical and biological ones.
