The formalin is an aqueous solution of formaldehyde (37%), a harsh and penetrating gas with chemical formula HCHO, used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and especially as a fixative in histology. To prevent polymerization of formaldehyde, add a 10-15% of methyl alcohol, which causes the formalin to acquire its name.
