Town of the eponymous Department (Famatina ) at the northern end of the province, argentina La Rioja, in the Northwest of the country. It is located in the foothills of the Sierras Pampeanas, where there are various elements ores, most notably gold. This name arose from «famatinita»: ortorrómbico mineral consisting of copper, antimony sulfide: Cu6Sb2S8, isomorphic of the enargite, in the arsenic substitutes to antimony with formula: Cu6As2S8.
