An extrasolar planet, or Exoplanet, is a planet that orbits a star other than the Sun and therefore does not belong to our solar system. The majority of discovered exoplanets are gaseous giants equal or more massive than our planet Jupiter, orbits very close to its star and very short orbital periods, also known as hot Jupiters.
