erosion . ( Of the lat. )( erosio, - onis , gnawing). 1. f. produced on the surface of a body by other violent or continuous friction wear or destruction. U t in sent. Fig. 2. f. wear and tear on the Earth's surface by external agents, such as water or wind. 3. f. superficial injury of the epidermis, produced by a mechanical or external agent. 4. f. degradation of the barrel of a pit of fire, caused by lack of homogeneity of the metal or poor conditions of the projectile or the box, or by excessive speed or extension of the fire. 5. f. wear of prestige or influence which may be a person, institution, etc.
