The elixir are liquid limpid taste nice and edulcorados hidroalcoholicos intended for oral use. Its main components are ethanol and water, but the preparation of the final product often used Glycerin, sorbitol, propylene glycol, saboriferos, conservative agents and syrups. The elixirs are more liquid than the syrups due to the use of less viscous components, such as alcohol and the minimum use of agents that increase the viscosity ( as sucrose ).The elixirs are used as flavouring and 40 vehicles; for example: aromatic elixir ) for drugs and when these substances are incorporated in specific solvents are classified as medicated elixirs, e.g.: dexamethasone elixir and phenobarbital elixir.
