It is the Spanishization of the term Elaphodus. It is the name of a genus of small mammals in the family Cervidae. It's the same deer of coupte. It is a small cervid found in India, China and Burma. Its scientific name is Elaphodus cephalophus and belongs to the Cervidae family. Males have highly developed saber-shaped tusks.
