dragontea . ( Of the lat. )( dracontea ). 1. f. herbaceous perennial of the family of the Aráceas of starchy and thick Rhizome, which tear off large leaves divided into five lobes lanceolate, with wide petioles which embrace the Scape, simulating a stem six to eight decimetres of height, streaked with black and green as the skin of a snake, blackish inside large, greenish outside and purple Spathe, and long, naked spadix at its end. It is cultivated as ornament in the garden, despite its bad odor during flowering, and is spontaneous at various points in Spain.
