Also called "thermomagnetic wrench" is a safety mechanism put on power lines to cut off the power supply in the face of an excessive increase in the current of the circuit. What it detects is the change in the temperature of the conductors or the increase of the magnetic field they radiate, then release the safety of the switch and open the circuit. See circuit breaker, differential circuit breaker, thermo- prefix ( "temperature" ) .
