In Mexico, 'gabasa' is what is left of a food item that has been chewed to extract it's juice then the left over is discarded and is not normally swallowed. Like sugar cane. You chew it till all the juice is extracted then the left over fiber is spit out. What you spit out and don't eat is 'Gabasa."
