morichales = plural of morichalEl morichal grows in areas where water currents are very quiet, and feed on very clean waters that have been filtered in the sands of soils in savannas. The color of the water is tea, caused by the suspension in water of humic substances. The Morichal ground is muddy, swampy, and flooding. We can say that the moriches grow almost exclusively in permanently waterlogged places.In this biological community dominant plant in number and height is the moriche, reaching its fronde ten meters of height. As the stream of the morichal develops, it becomes an increasingly wide river and riparian forest is enriched in variety with other species of trees such as the tendril, guamo, the carricillo and many other species.Water of the Morichal is home of the temblador fish, Peacock bass and Guabina. Muscovy duck, bird empty and up to one other jaguar, parrots and macaws live in its banks. But the Moriche is so dominant that it also influences in the culture of the Indians Cariña, who does wonders in basket weaving with fibers of the leaves at the time that also leverage their edible fruits. For the Cariña, the Moriche Palm is like manna.
