A roll is a column of stone, usually topped by a cross or a ball. It represented the administrative category of place, rising only in the villazgos that had full jurisdiction, indicating the regime was subject: real, Council, ecclesiastical or monastic seigniory. Also marked the limit of territorial and, in some cases, it was a memorial to the granting of the villazgo. They shared with the demonstrative functions of executions. These executions were suspended by the Decree of the Court of Cadiz in 1812.Los there in those villages of Castilla y León, which had Mayor and, therefore, jurisdiction to judge and condemn to death. It was also used to punish and to pay penalties under common criminals, who after being scourged, were exposed to public shame.The rolls are similar to cruise ships, but its meaning is different.During the conquest of America, the first act of Foundation of a city consisted of the erection of the roll, as a symbol of Royal jurisdiction and as a sign of coercive threat.
