Transubstantiation is a Roman Catholic doctrine of the Eucharist, defined by a canon of the Council of Trent, though in fact already appeared from the fourth century since Cirilo of Jerusalem had already drafted it in the catechism to the catechumens. The Council of Trent does not more than confirm what 1,500 years earlier came believing in relation to " the consecration of the bread and wine which takes place in the change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood 34.1 Meaning " 34 species; for these purposes, " 34 accidents; bread and wine: color, taste, quantity, etc. This conversion is operated, according to the Catholic catechism, in prayer, Eucharistic consecration with the efficacy of the word of Christ and of the action of the spirit Santo.2 is considered under the consecrated species of bread and wine, "Christ himself, living and glorious, is present in a way true, real and substantial, with his body, his blood, his soul and his divinity " ( cf cc. of Trent: DS 16( 41 1651; " 3 Such Eucharistic presence is maintained while the eucaristicas.4se species exist based on the immediate and literal sense of the words of Christ at the last supper: " This is my body... and my blood " Mark 14:12-16 16:22-26, Matthew 26:26-28, Luke 22: 14-23. While the Gospel of John does not mention the establishment of the Eucharist, Jesus makes mention to feed his flesh as food of eternal life (Jn 6: 51-58 ). The Christians of the Orthodox Church also accept this doctrine, opposite to the Lutheran doctrine of the consubstantiation. The churches of the Anglican Communion accept the real presence of Jesus in the consecrated elements, without discussing how happens the mystery, merely on the words of Jesus: " this bread is my body " " this wine is my blood 34. Protestants reject it, arguing that to obtain eternal life, is not necessary anything other than a true faith in Jesus, which would eliminate the need of any sacrament. Sometimes also under the argument that the Jews had them ( and have ) forbidden to drink blood and they still were under that law.
