Enyesque, "Small portion of food served as an accompaniment to drink" seems to come from the word tinder (from lat . esca food, food) , which the DRAE defines in its 4th meaning as follows: "Coloq . Something that excites the desire to drink, and, with singularity, to drink wine". From there would have been created in the Canary Islands the verb enyescar to eat yesca, and this verb would have resulted, finally, and once the awareness of the existence of tinder with that meaning, the name enyesque was lost. Both enyescar and enyesque belong to the eastern province of our archipelago (Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria), while, in the west, especially in Tenerife, it is preferred, as a synonym of enyesque, and in addition to tapa, armadero. These words are, of course, correct. In fact, there has been talk of the routes of the enyesque, especially in Gran Canaria.
