Hallucinogenic mushroom of the genus psilocybe from small size ( Psilocybe cubensis ) that usually appear on the Prairies in autumn or spring rains. Its mycelium thrives on the dung of ruminants, like many other mushrooms, contains an alkaloid called psilocybin, causing alteration of consciousness.
