There are two very similar plants one is the MALANGA (Puerto Rico) or colomo, taro or pituca. What is eaten in Chiapas is what is eaten is the root or tuber that reaches up to 15 centimeters in diameter and about 40 or more long and its leaves if they are poisonous. The other similar plant has slightly smaller leaves but of identical design and is known as quequextle; this has a slender root and only eats its leaves good not all, only the part that is between the "nerves" of the leaves.
