In biology it is a type of organelle specialized for inoculating toxins. It is also called nematocyst. It serves for the capture of prey, for locomotion and for the defense of the colony. It is usually possessed by Cnidarians (jellyfish, corals, sea anemones). In Geography and History it is the name of an ancient Turkish city. It was also called Gnido. In ancient times it belonged to Greece and belonged to the Region of caria (Asia Minor).
