Meaning of chorba

Miguel

chorba
  18

In northwestern Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán), formerly small but very long trains were used, in which the sugar cane was transported for grinding in sugar mills. Those trains, which were the delight for the boys, were called Chorbas or Chorvas ( colloquial). I have not found this definition in any dictionary or encyclopedia. It is possible that the term may come from the deformation of another language. I would appreciate if anyone could provide information about this word. Thank you

Danilo Enrique Noreña Benítez
