Beaver . ( Of the lat. )( Beaver, - oris ). 1. m. rodent mammal, thick body, which reaches a 65 cm long, covered with fine brown hair, with short legs, feet with five toes webbed, and flattened, oval, scaly tail. Long live in the water, feeds on leaves, bark and roots of trees, and builds skillfully their homes on the banks of rivers or lakes, making true large dams. He hunts to remove the skin, which is used in fur, as well as to extract the castoreum.
