One of the many names of the heather to which in my land near the Montes prefer to say urz, calluna vulgaris, of the Ericaceae family, which endures the drought well because it performs photosynthesis C4 . Its very hard wood has been used in craftsmanship to make bagpipes, pipes or other objects and its root to make charcoal.

It is one of the common names of three different plants. They are also called heather or brecin. All are from the same family ( Ericaceae ) although one of the scientific name Calluna vulgaris is of the genus Calluna and the other two are of the genus Erica and their scientific names are Erica cinerea and Erica vagans. They grow in acidic soils and have medicinal uses.
