It was the name given to an Amerindian people settled on the banks of the Napo River, in territories of Peru and Ecuador, in the region of Escuelacocha. It is also the name of the language they spoke (one of the disappeared Zaparoan languages). Many of its members migrated to Brazil in the Amazon region.
