CAMELID: Auchenia refers to the genus, now in disuse, created by Carl Peter Thunberg to classify the camelids of the American continent, alpacas, the guanacos, flames and vicuñas, which Linnaeus had been classified as Camelus along with old world camelids. However, he never told with great acceptance, and in 1800, Cuvier set the criteria that would be used until recent, moving to the monotypic genus Vicugna vicuña and the remaining three species to the genus Lama. Some sources, such as the 1911 edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica, continued using the name Auchenia, although according to the international code of Zoological Nomenclature no longer should be considered valid. With the advent of DNA analysis found that the alpacas are more closely linked with the vicuñas and relocated them from Lama pacos to Vicugna pacos. Finally recognizes, such as Thunberg, proposed that these camels form a definite group consisting of two 40 genera;Lama and Vicugna ) with their own and different from old world camelids characteristics. Its officially form is camelid, to designate globally camelid Americans.
