One of the principal gods of the Greek pantheon and one of the twelve Olympian gods, Athena received cult in all the ancient Greece and throughout its area of influence, from the Greek colonies in Asia minor up to the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. His presence is attested to in the vicinity of the India. Therefore his cult took many forms and even had a considerable expansion to the point that his figure was syncretized with other deities in the regions surrounding the Mediterranean.
