Plural of apache . In the Zuñi language it means enemy. It was the term most used in the old west to designate the Indians who assaulted the stagecoaches. They really were of different ethnicities, but the best known were the Sioux and Cheyennes. They basically lived in the plains of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
