anfictonia is incorrectly written, and should be written as "interpretation" as meaning: Greek word ( amphiktionia amphiktionias ) It was the Confederation of the ancient Greek polis for common issues, mostly defensive. It was the year 477 a. d. C. when representatives of the largest part of the Greek cities, (Sparta had withdrawn from the Hellenic League, ) they met on the island of Delos, one of the Cyclades Islands, close to Mykonos, in a strategic position of the Aegean Sea. They decided to create the Delian League pledging to maintain and strengthen the Hellenic fleet. From the beginning, the Athenians, who had the largest fleet, occupied a leadership position and were responsible for raising the funds to create the federal Treasury at Delos, which later moved to Athens. Thus the Greeks could fend off the Persian attacks, coming out victorious in the Medic wars. Although they also suffered a defeat, in the most notable battles (Marathon, Salamis... ) they always won. With the awareness of this common enemy and the excellence of its democracy were creating a feeling of Panhellenic unity.
