It is one of the common names of a plant in the family Papaveraceae. It is also called white poppy, matilija, poppy matilija or tree poppy. Its scientific name is Romneya coulteri or also Romneya trichocalyx. It was dedicated to Doctors Thomas Coulter (English physician and botanist) and Thomas Romney Robinson (Irish cleric, physicist and astronomer). Opium, morphine and other strong alkaloids are extracted from it. It is native to California and Northern Mexico.
