I thought it might have some relation to the Latin adbibo ("to drink avidly, listen attentively, record deeply"), but in English it doesn't exist. It must be a mistake to abdicate ("renounce the throne").
It means to renounce, to resign, to abandon, to resign. To leave or abandon an office or a title, by one's own decision.
