It is one of the common names of several toxic herbaceous plants of the families Melanthiaceae and Ranunculaceae. It may refer to aconitum napellus, known as anapel, matalobos or aconite; to the Aconitum vulparia, also known by the above common names cited. these plants belong to the family Ranunculaceae. It is also the common name of the Veratrum album (also called crossbow, white hellebore, surbia, veratro rhizome). This plant is from the family Melanthiaceae. All contain powerful alkaloids.
