Plural of Tepuy . In Pemón indigenous language that is of Caribbean origin, it means mountain. It is a special geological and orographic formation, in which plateaus with very abrupt and vertical edges are presented. They are characteristic of the Guyanese Shield. They can be found in Venezuela ( Montes Roraima or Sierra Pacaraima, which belong to the Canaima National Park), Brazil, Guyana and Colombia ( Serranía de Chiribiquete ).

Plural of tepuy tepuy or tepui is a kind of particularly rugged plateaus, with vertical walls and you peaks very flat ( although not in all cases ) characteristics of the Guiana Shield, mainly in the area of the Gran Sabana of Venezuela. It is usually composed of quartzites and sandstones with some thin beds of shale. Also it is possible to find these unique formations in smaller amounts and sizes at the boundary with the neighbouring countries such as Guyana and Brasil.Estas mountains are the formations exposed more ancient on the planet; its origin dates back to the Precambrian. They are a complex between the northern border of the Amazon and the Orinoco, between the Atlantic coast and the Rio Negro. Throughout the course of the history of Earth, the plateau was eroded, and the Tepuis were formed.Its name comes from a voice of indigenous language pemon, which means mountain or abode of the gods. The Tepuis tend to be individually isolated rather than be part of a common chain. This feature often makes them environment where unique evolutionary forms are developed both animals and vegetables. The Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle imagined in his novel the lost world that their tops were the habitat of enormous dinosaurios.1 currently the tepuyes are protected by Venezuelan laws under the figure of natural monuments and the ascenso.2 is permitted only to some of them on the tops of these Tepuis are born rivers and huge waterfalls, being the best known Angel falls, the highest waterfall in the mundo.3
