Tazumal is a site that was part of the Toltec empire in the present-day district of Chalchuapa (El Salvador), occupied by the Maya until the 13th century, when it was abandoned. Today its ruins are an archaeological area.
It is the name of a very important archaeological site of El Salvador. It is located in the municipality of Chalchuapa, Department of Santa Ana . It was a great Mayan settlement.
