MAGNETOFONIC ( and non-MAGNETOFOOCO ) Belonging to and relating to the MAGNETOPHONE or MAGNETOFON . It comes from the German Magnetophon, trademark The latter is a device that receives impulses from a microphone and converts them into electrical impulses that are recorded on a magnetic tape. Today the term has been appropriated by the open coil magnetophone. but all recorders/players are actually magnetophones. In addition to the open coil are the cassette and the cartridge ones. Cell phone technology has largely supplied such devices.
