In Brazil they are settlements of misery, very poor neighborhoods. Slums, suburbs, slums, huts made with precarious materials and lacking public services. Neighborhoods that are formed without any type of planned development. In Brazil it is a way to call cassava brava, which is a plant of the family Euphorbiaceae, also called faveleira. Its scientific name is Cnidoscolus phyllacanthus.

A precarious and poor settlement in cities of Brazil, where drug trafficking and other crimes are very common. In Argentina there are the "misery villas" that are somewhat similar. In other countries they have different names.
