Degu or degú are one of the common names in Chile and Argentina of a small rodent. It is known as brush tail mouse, pirca mouse, Chilean squirrel, trumpet tail mouse. The word degú is of Mapuche origin and means rat, mouse: Its scientific name is Octodon degus. It belongs to the family Octodontidae.
