It is the common name of a plant that has acid-flavored stems. It is also called Caña de Cristo , Caña de la Virgen, deer cane, tiger cane, cañla, sweet potato, lipana sweet potato, huilamole, tirabuzón , pango , chipana, sangapilla . It belongs to the family Costaceae ( Zingiberaceae ) and its scientific name is Costus spiralis . It has medicinal uses and gives good results for diabetes control. In Colombia there is also another herbaceous plant with that name.
