It is a natural chemical substance, alkaloid type, which is extracted from a plant known as cholquic, mataperros, autumn cholquic, autumn crocus, autumn narcissus, snack remover, montés onion, matacán, villorita, bastard saffron or wild saffron. Its scientific name is Colchicum autumnale, which belongs to the genus Colchicum and the family Colchicaceae. Chemically it is formed by biosynthesis from phenylamine and tyrosine. It is a toxic substance, with medicinal uses.
