The CIBIOGEM is the Intersecretarial Commission on Biosafety of the genetically modified organisms, is an organ of the Executive Federal power that the more high level is responsible for establishing policies relating to the safety of biotechnology with regard to the use of genetically modified organisms ( GMOs ) for the United States of Mexico. The CIBIOGEM is composed of the owners of the Secretaries of agriculture, livestock, Rural Development, fisheries and food; Environment and natural resources; Health; Public education; Finance and public credit, and economy, as well as the General Director of the National Council of science and technology. The CIBIOGEM has an Executive Secretary appointed by the President of the Republic who, with the support of the Executive Secretariat, executes and is a follow-up to the agreements of the Commission. In addition, the CIBIOGEM relies on three technical bodies and Advisory: the Technical Committee, the Scientific Advisory Council and the MixtoLa Advisory Council chairmanship of the Committee exercises for periods of two years, on a rotating basis between holders of SAGARPA, SEMARNAT and health.
