It is one of the many names that a plant receives from edible tubers. The name of pituca, bituca or onkucha, receives it in Peru. It is also known as taro, otoe, bituca, ñampí, chinese potato, malanga, bore, ocumo, cará. Its scientific name is Colocasia esculenta and it belongs to the Araceae family.

It is an edible tuber similar to a potato, with a harder consistency and pinkish color inside. It is cooked in a similar way to potato, cassava and cassava.
