Name given to French descendants who formed settlements in various parts of North America. They come from Acadia. Acadia was the name assigned to a French seat in New France (it was founded 4 years before Quebec). After being expelled by the British they formed settlements in what is now the State of Louisiana in the United States and there they were also called Cujones.
